High-latitude exospheric temperature observed over a solar cycle

Abstract

The exospheric temperature is an important parameter for neutral atmospheric models. This parameter varies diurnally, seasonally, and over longer periods because of solar-cycle effects. Observations made with the Chatanika radar over the past 11 years have resulted in high-latitude exospheric temperature data over these periods. These data are now available. This very large data base indicates that the high-latitude exospheric temperature varies dirunally and seasonally as expected and by 500°K over this solar cycle.
