Near-axial backscattering from a cone-sphere

Abstract

The near-axial backscattering from a conducting cone-sphere is studied using the equivalent current concept based on the uniform geometrical theory of diffraction (UTD). The creeping waves associated with the spherical base and the conical surface are incorporated into the equivalent current technique. It has been found that the contributions from the creeping waves associated with the conical surface are significant for the oblique incident case. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first UTD approach to calculate the off-axial backscattering from a conducting cone-sphere.
