Abstract

Aspect sensitivity at tropospheric heights measured with the vertically pointed broad antenna beam (half power beam width is 7.4°) of the new Chung-Li VHF radar will be presented and discussed. The angular dependence of the echo power is shown to be Gaussian, and the echo power lapse rate at heights between 2 and 8 km is about 0.5 dB/deg to 1.05 dB/deg. This angular dependence levels off at approximately 4° to 10 °, depending on the heights. The observed aspect sensitivity is analyzed and related to background atmospheric parameters.
