The existence of straight uniform flows without secondary current is studied. It is shown that laminar flows of this kind can remain without secondary currents independent of cross section and velocity distribution. For turbulent flows it is shown that secondary flows will develop spontaneously if in any part of the section the expression for ∂/∂t as given in Eq. (19) is not vanishing.
