Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) is a malignant disorder that originates in a single abnormal haematopoietic stem cell. CML patients were once regarded as incurable, but more recent understanding of the molecular anatomy and pathophysiology of the disease provides important insights into the targeting of treatment to a specific molecular abnormality.
