Toxicologists are increasingly applying oligonucleotide and complementary DNA microarrays in an attempt to understand adverse chemical reactions that occur during gene transcription. When applied in concert with the more established approaches of biochemical toxicology, pathology and so on, the appropriate use of these microarrays is improving our fundamental knowledge of mechanisms of toxicity and will have profound impact on safety assessment processes in the discovery and development of new pharmaceuticals.
