Abstract

Exonic splicing enhancers (ESEs) are short motifs in exons that promote both constitutive and alternative splicing. Several splicing factors, known as SR proteins, bind specifically to ESEs during the initial steps of splicing to initiate assembly of the spliceosomal complex.
