Gabriel Romanus, well-known to many people in the alcohol field, has been elected as a member of parliament in the recent Swedish elections. He represents the Liberal party. Dr Romanus has politics in his blood, having sat as a member of parliament throughout the 1970s. He served as Minister for Social Affairs between 1978 and 1979. He provides an authoritative voice for questions of alcohol policy and regulation, having served as director of Systembolaget, the Swedish retail alcohol monopoly, for 17 years.
