The high cost of disposable stapling devices for laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oo¨phorectomy (LAVH and BSO) limits the cost effectiveness of the technique. A suture technique is described and the results of the first 45 cases reported. A mean length of postoperative stay of 4 days and an overall complication rate of 11% are similar to those reported for LAVH and BSO using other techniques. This suture technique has cost and safety advantages over other methods using disposable stapling devices or extensive diathermy.
