In the title salt, C20H21N
·C7H7SO
·H2O, the quinolinium cation exhibits a large molecular non-linear optical (NLO) response, as determined by Stark spectroscopy, but crystallization in the centrosymmetric space group P
precludes significant bulk NLO effects. Intermolecular O—H⋯O and weak C—H⋯O hydrogen bonding links the constituent molecules into a three-dimensional network.
