WT S. aureus cells were treated with chlorin e6, then transcription was stopped before (−) and after (+) laser irradiation. One microgram of total RNA was reverse-transcribed into cDNA with random primers, and then PCR-amplified using gene-specific primer sets (Table S2). PCR conditions were as follows: 95°C for 5 mins, 25 cycles of 95°C for 30 s, 54°C for 30 s and 72°C for 1 min. Amplified PCR products were visualized after separatation on a 1% agarose gel stained with ethidium bromide. The housekeeping gene rpoD was used as a normalization control.
