By now, most of you are starting a new semester and thinking about how you can be more efficient and effective in advancing the learning of your students. We hope JFSE has some of the information you need to implement or evaluate these changes. In the Letter to the Editor from Mario Ferruzzi, Co-Chair of IFT's Education Advisory Panel, you will find some hints about the forthcoming changes in the educational programming at the IFT Annual Meeting. The vision of the panel and the willingness of the Board of Directors to provide the necessary resources promise to make the Annual Meeting in Chicago a very exciting event for those interested in Food Science education.
In this issue, we have an article by Carbone and others that addresses food safety education for special needs students. We also have the award-winning essay from the Education Division's student essay contest that was written by Kyle Clark from Cornell Univ. As you read this essay on taste, please think about motivating one of your students to submit. Finally, we have Jim Bird's column pointing us to some things we should read.
Have a productive year!
