The aim of this article was to combine information from a self-reported questionnaire and econometric regression to answer the following research questions: What proportion of the Australian population report that they were discriminated against in the labour market? How does the incidence of self perceived discrimination vary by observable characteristics? How is it related to observed measures of discrimination? The results show that there is significant overlap between observed and perceived discrimination. There are, however, important differences by demography and workplace characteristics that point to different policy priorities.
