Fuller et al. conducted their study before new consensus definitions of mild, moderate, and severe acute respiratory syndrome (ARDS) replaced the terms ALI and ARDS for pO2/FiO2 ratios 200–300, 100–200, and <100, respectively. This editorial maintains the authors’ use of the prior terminology.
