      The ability to survive in macrophages is key to the success of Mycobacterium tuberculosis as a pathogen. While it is known that the bacterium modulates the behavior of the vacuole in which it resides, the impact of infection on the physiology of other phagosomes has yet to be fully elucidated. This current study demonstrates that Mtb infection selectively modulates phagosome function, most specifically down-regulating lipolysis, which likely contributes to the cell's increased retention of lipids that may be metabolized by the bacterium.
