Development of GFP technologies in parallel with the technical progress in microscopy and computer science has enabled high quality imaging and their analysis of living organisms. Live imaging is very powerful for better understanding of embryogenesis, we can observe molecular events in a cell and dynamics of multiple cells in an organism in multi spatial and temporal scales. This is particularly important in the field of developmental biology since we can observe cellular behavior at developmental events. Developmental biologists are exiting looking at cellular behavior in embryogenesis. We thought that it is a good timing to publish a special issue focusing on bioimaging in developmental biology. We hope this issue will provide general information on available techniques and materials for developmental biologists.
