  1. Barton Schneemann is currently a planning forester for HQPlantations in southeast QLD. This research is based on his Honours studies at the Australian National University (The Fenner School of Environment and Society, College of Science, Forestry Building 48, Linnaeus Way, Canberra ACT 0200, Australia; Email: bartschneemann@hotmail.com) on direct seeded vegetation in the Southern Tablelands of NSW. The late Chris McElhinny was a senior lecturer in silviculture at the Australian National University. His research focused on Australia’s forests and woodland ecology. The research reported in this paper was undertaken in cooperation with Greening Australia Capital Region.
