Item S1: Video of pelvic flexure serosal dark-field microscopy showing how both movement and excessive pressure cause artefacts. Excessive pressure results in a lack of vessel visualisation. When pressure is reduced, vessels are seen to fill, and flow is observed (time 13–16 s).
Item S2: Example video of dark-field microscopy of the pelvic flexure serosa showing good microvascular blood flow. This horse had no surgical lesion identified (control horse).
Item S3: Example video of dark-field microscopy of the pelvic flexure serosa showing poor to no microvascular blood flow. This horse had a 360° large colon volvulus.
