    1. Richard Kurin is the director of the Smithsonian Institution Centre for Folklife and Cultural Heritage which produces the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, and other cultural educational programmes. He is an anthropologist and author of The Reflections of a Culture Broker (Smithsonian). He serves on the UNESCO jury for the Proclamation of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity and participated in conferences and meetings of intergovernmental experts to draft the Convention.
