Table S1. Coefficients calculated for mass-scaling of measured SRP excretion rates for fish species collected in streams in Ontario, Canada. These values were generated for normal least squares regression of log (μg/hr) SRP excreted vs. log (g) mass. For Catastomus commersonii and Semotilus atromaculatus significant inter-site variation of excretion rates was examined using stepwise multiple regression. All environmental variables given in Table 1 of the main text were included in these analyses, but only periphyton N:P entered into either forward and backward stepwise models. Stepwise multiple regression models including both site periphyton N:P (P) and individual body mass (M) were used to predict excretion for these two species. Trophic guilds listed are omnivore (O), insectivore (I), and generalist (G).
