ABSTRACT

Objective  To evaluate whether innate surgical endoscopic skill could be predicted by ability to play computer video games.

Design  Prospective study.

Subjects  46 consecutive delegates attending an endoscopy workshop completed timed trials of laparoscopic and hysteroscopic skills stations and a commercial video game. These results were compared to identify any correlation.

Results  There was a highly statistically significant correlation between skills tests and game time.

Conclusion  This finding could be utilized to identify aptitude prior to or during surgical training.
