B. Nevado is a PhD student in molecular evolution with a special focus in East African cichlids. S. Koblmüller applies molecular genetic techniques to study questions in ecology, behavior, conservation and evolution of animals, with a special focus on Lake Tanganyika cichlid fishes. C. Sturmbauer is interested in the dynamics of speciation and adaptive radiation at the population and phylogenetic levels, using African cichlid fishes as model system. He studies the role of natural selection during diversification processes in allopatric and sympatric scenarios. J. Usano-Alemany is currently a PhD student addressing the influence of abiotic factors in the production of secondary metabolites in some species of aromatic and medicinal plants. J. Snoeks is the Senior Scientist & Curator of fishes at the Royal Museum for Central Africa. E. Verheyen has been involved with phylogenetic and phylogeographic studies of African aquatic and terrestrial vertebrates, with emphasis on the study of vicariance events resulting from Pleistocene climate changes and a recent interest in the potential use of mtDNA sequences as DNA barcodes in taxonomic research.
