Occurrence of bacterial brown spot of dry beans in the Transvaal province of South Africa



Bacterial brown spot, caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae, caused epidemics on dry beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) on the Transvaal Highveld in South Africa during 1992. Crop losses of up to 55% were reported in plantings of the dry bean cultivar Bonus. The pathogen was detected in commercial seed stocks.
