EVOLUTION OF ZIRCONS IN SEDIMENTARY AND METAMORPHIC ROCKS: A REPLY

SUMMARY

In a discussion Kalsbeek (1967) suggests that my idea of an authigenic origin of zircons seems to be the result of mis-identification of authigenic titaniferous minerals as zircon. Kalsbeek appears to have formed this opinion firstly because he sees all the crystals (Saxena, 1966a, plate IV) as zircons. I never mentioned this. Since 70% of the matrix in the sandstones consists of such aggregate, the very idea of having so much zircon in the rock would be fantastic and absurd.
