Summary
Treatment with topical sulconazole nitrate 1% solution once daily was compared with topical clotrimazole 1% solution twice daily for three weeks in patients with pityriasis versicolor. Both groups showed significant improvement judged by medical and patient evaluation. After six weeks clinical improvement was maintained in the majority of patients and negative microscopy was maintained in 79% and 92% of those using sulconazole and clotrimazole, respectively. Sulconazole applied once each day appears to be equivalent in efficacy and safety to clotrimazole applied twice daily.
