- 1In selected patients, clinically diagnosed adhesive obstruction of bowel can sometimes be relieved by posturing. This forestalls intubation or operation.
- 2The considerations which led to trial of this treatment are mentioned.
- 3Successful postures are described.
- 4Posturing should not be used if a closed loop of small bowel or a colonic obstruction is suspected.
- 5If unsuccessful, posturing must not delay intubation or operation.
- 6Posturing in the post-operative period may have some value in preventing adhesions.
