The authors have contributed a clearly written study of inguinal hernias (IH) and open retropubic radical prostatectomy (ORRP). Their key finding is that most IH exist before RRP and that RRP does not cause IH in most cases. The main concern here is the significant cost of preoperative MRI scans, groin ultrasounds, and the added billing and costs associated with repairing all of these IH, many of which are asymptomatic and likely to never require intervention.
