    This study originated m a seminar on the TAT conducted by the senior author at the University of Pittsburgh m 1944–1945 The plan for the project was outlined to the seminar and the work of examining the subjects was divided among its various members (Grateful acknowledgment is made to Leonard Abramson, Leo Chalfen, Helen Jane Clarke, Mary C Hazard, Margaret Kuenne David Lazovik, Anne Lehndorff, Mary V Louden, Harriet McConnell, Marguerite Snyder, and Erma Wheeler) Each of these examiners was a graduate student or faculty member with previous experience in psychological testing Preliminary analyses of the resultant material were made by them but all the data as well as additional material on 17 other subjects examined by the junior author were analyzed anew by her as the basis for a master's thesis The senior author is responsible for the design and supervision of the project, for the present statistical revision of Table I, and for the writing of the manuscript
