Figure S1 Expression profile of the olesosin 2 transcript during barley seed development. Expression values were quantified on the basis of cDNA array data. The resulting data were normalized using the median centring algorithm. The normalized expression values are depicted as percentages on the y axis, and the corresponding developmental stages of the endosperm (0–26 DAF) and embryo (12–26 DAF) are specified on the x axis. DAF, days after flowering.

Figure S2 Animated three-dimensional model of lipid distribution in the mature barley grain visualized by magnetic resonance imaging. High lipid signals (in green) are found in the scutellum and nodule. Lipid in the aleurone is visualized as a blue layer surrounding the endosperm. Shrinkage of the seed during drying causes folding of the aleurone, recognized as aleurone regions with elevated lipid content. Lipid is absent in the crease belt and in the basal part of the grain.

Table S1 Complete list of differentially expressed genes together with annotation and normalized expression values of lipid metabolism genes obtained from two experimental series based on independently grown plant material. Each horizontal row represents an individual gene; developmental stages are represented in vertical columns. Developmental stages (0–26 days after flowering) are assigned to the top of the table.
