Abstract:
Oil is so vital to the growth economy today that we find it almost impossible to imagine a world without it. Given that world oil production is constrained and that our fossil fuel consumption per capita is no longer sustainable, what are the consequences for humanity, especially the world's poor majority? This editorial urges anthropologists to confront this question with the full range and force of our discipline's insights, data and methods.
