Seventh Harry G. Johnson Memorial Lecture Multilateralism at Risk The GATT is Dead. Long Live the GATT
JAGDISH BHAGWATI is Arthur Lehman Professor of Economics and Professor of Political Science at Columbia University, New York. This article is the text of the Seventh Harry G. Johnson Memorial Lecture, delivered at the Royal Society of Arts in London on 11 July, 1990. A greatly expanded version will be published shortly by Princeton University Press (USA) and Harvester Wheatsheaf (UK). By the time this lecture is published, the outlines of the Uruguay Round's success, if any, will have become clearer; but the discussion in the lecture should nonetheless provide some illumination and guide to the final solution.
