Scent marking and associated behaviour in captive Common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus jacchus) with a description of the histology of scent glands

Authors

Abstract

The histological structure of the scent marking glands of Callithrix jacchus jacchus is described. Frequencies of scent marking were variable and bore no relation to reproductive states. Scent marking was temporally associated with sensory and piloerection behaviours. Possible functions of scent marking in C. J. jacchus are discussed.
