The threat behaviour in Varanus griseus was investigated with high-speed cinematography and X-ray films. Lizards exhibit threat display involving throat movements and associated throat, thorax and mouth movements. The functional anatomy of the bucco-pharyngeal region is described and threat displays are kinematically studied and functionally interpreted.
