Hayward, Jędrzejewski and Jędrzejewska, (2012) included an incorrect version of Table 2 (volume 286, page 223). The correct version of the Table appears below.

Table 2. Preference status, mean Jacobs index value of each tiger prey species, number of studies recording it as potential prey (np) and actual prey (na), mean percentage abundance and kills of each prey species, body mass (3/4 adult female), and categories of herd size and main habitat based on Nowak (1999) and references in Hayward et al., (2006). Taxonomy has been revised to follow Groves and Grubb (2011).
Species Preference np na Jacobs index SE Abundance SE Kills SE Body mass (kg) Herd Habitat
  1. Preference symbols are ?, sample size is too small to determine preference; ∼, killed in accordance with its relative abundance in the prey community; +, significantly preferred prey species; –, significantly avoided prey species.

  2. Herd categories are 1, solitary; 2, pairs; 3, 3–9 individuals in herds; 4, herds of 10–19 individuals; 5, herds generally exceed 20 individuals.

  3. Main habitat types are 1, open areas; 2, wooded areas; 3, forests.

  4. +, a larger sample size is likely to see this species significantly preferred; ∼, a larger sample size is likely to see this species significantly avoided.

  5. SE, standard error.
