Summary

Chromosome counts have been carried out on thirteen specimens of Lygodium, mostly of known wild origin from various parts of the oriental tropics. Five specimens represent taxa not previously investigated from any source. The results confirm some previous records, notably the presence in the genus of two base numbers (n = 29 and n = 30) and their multiples, but they add a new base number (n = 28) and multiples. Some phyletic and other implications of these findings are discussed.
