Kinetin enhances bud formation in Timmiella anomala. Cyclic 3′, 5′-adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) and theophylline inhibit bud formation, but stimulate growth of gametophores. N8, O2-dibutyryl adenosine 3′, 5′-cyclic monophosphate has no appreciable effect. ATP, ADP, 2′, 3′-cAMP, 5′-AMP, adenosine and adenine stimulate bud formation. Kinetin in combination with cAMP further increases bud number and also the length of gametophores. This effect appears to be specific, since it is not observed when kinetin is added along with 2′, 3′-cAMP, 5′-AMP or adenosine.
