Summary

The genetic basis of polymorphism in the capitula of Senecio cambrensis has been shown to be the result of interaction between genes at two loci for ray floret length. This polymorphism is likely to be augmented by infrequent inter-genomic pairing, despite the predominance of preferential homologous pairing. It is suggested that homoeologous pairing may be an important source of variability in the species.
