SOMATIC INCOMPATIBILITY AND FIELD DISTRIBUTION OF THE ECTOMYCORRHIZAL FUNGUS SUILLUS LUTEUS (BOLETACEAE)

Authors

Summary

Tissue isolates were collected from 25 basidiocarps of Suillus luteus (L. ex Fr.) S. F. Gray under pine trees (Pinus sylvestris L.) at nine sites in a small forest area (approximately 1 km2) and tested for somatic incompatibility. Eleven distinct clones were detected, none of which was found in more than one site. This ectomycorrhizal fungus therefore possesses a population structure similar to that of many wood-decomposing basidiomycetes.
