The morphology, flowering behaviour and esterase genotype was examined for six F2 progenies of hybrids between the two main variants of Poa annua L. (namely, annual-erect and perennial-prostrate). The association of flowering time with leaf and tiller morphology and Est 1 allozyme genotype, previously described for the two variants in populations from Burgundy, was fully broken in the F2 generation, indicating that no linkage blocks were involved. Whether selection maintains the association of isozyme genotype and growth form is discussed.
