M indicates the size in kilobase pairs of molecular weight standards. Membranes were hybridized to radiolabelled probes at low then high stringency and bound probe detected by autoradiography. Blot A was sequentially hybridized to ZmPT1, ZmPT2 then ZmPT3 to allow a precise comparison of band size. Fig. S2. Northern blot analysis of phosphate and hexose transporter gene expression in roots and leaves of different age in nonmycorrhizal Zea mays cv. River. The maize internal transcribed spacer (ZmITS) sequence was used as a loading control. Twenty ?g of total RNA was loaded in each lane. Equal loading of RNA in each lane was verified by staining with ethidium bromide.
