Summary
Sucrose test meals (1g. per kg. body weight) were given to ten pregnant women at term and ten control non-pregnant women. Glucose tolerance to the sucrose meals was significantly better in the non-pregnant than in the pregnant women, but fructose tolerance was identical in the two groups. The findings are discussed in the light of the significantly higher levels of fasting plasma triglyceride observed in the pregnant women.
