Summary
Preterm singleton perinatal deaths were due mainly to antepartum intrauterine deaths or severe obstetric complications resulting in elective deliveries, and asphyxiating conditions complicating very preterm fetuses in spontaneous labour. None of these deaths was salvagable by delaying delivery or suppressing labour. In uncomplicated preterm labour, there were no perinatal deaths.
