Summary. The overall sex ratio in 13 432 primigravidae who were delivered between 1967 and 1979 was 104.8. The ratio was 99.4 in the 8639 women who were normotensive and 117.3 in the 3933 who were hypertensive without proteinuria; both values were significantly different from the overall ratio. In women with proteinuric pre-eclampsia the ratio was 107, not significantly different from the overall ratio.
