HEWSON, W. (1739–1774) savant, anatomist and surgeon; partner of William Hunter 1762–1771; Colpley medallist 1769; FRS 1770. His “Inquiry into the Properties of the Blood” was minutely observed and lucidly described, although unfortunately it is sometimes difficult to interpret what he wrote in current terms. This obviously does not apply to the quotation below. Sadly, Hewson fatally wounded himself while dissecting.
