Abstract

We describe seven polymorphic microsatellite loci for the mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). The microsatellites presented here are highly polymorphic, with on average 12 alleles in a sample of 15 presumably unrelated individuals. Therefore, they enable detailed parentage analysis in wild mallard populations, and can be used to answer many intriguing questions in behavioural ecology and evolutionary biology.
