The effect of the polyamine biosynthesis inhibitor DFMO on the ectomycorrhizal fungus Paxillus involutus



DFMO reduced mycelial growth of the ectomycorrhizal fungus Paxillus involutus. This was accompanied by reduced activities of ornithine decarboxylase, S-adenosylmethionine decarboxylase and diamine oxidase, and unchanged polyamine oxidase activity. Although DFMO treatment did not alter putrescine or spermidine concentrations significantly, spermine concentration was substantially reduced.
