Annual counts of the five commonest bird species in an oak wood in southeastern England over 22 years showed evidence for density-dependent feedback in their year-to-year fluctuations. The counts also showed evidence for effects of winter weather in two species (Wren Troglodytes troglodytes and Robin Erithacus rubecula). Evidence for density-dependence in the Wren was greatly strengthened when effects of winter weather were included in the analysis.
