Figure S1 Correlation between inhibitory effects of steroid analogues and their structure. Shown is a scatter plot of data for sixteen C3-substituted steroid analogues (see Figure 1 for their structure). The ordinate gives the IC50 for inhibition (see Table 1), and the abscissa shows the distance between the charged moiety and the C3 of the steroid skeleton (distance) (see Methods for details). The solid line shows the regression of IC50 on distance (correlation coefficient r = 0.60). Inset shows an example of a 3D structure of PA-25 as determined from 3D modelling (see Methods).
