Abstract

Clara Louise Maass had a brief career that culminated in her participation in a fatal yellow fever experiment. For making this choice, she has been called a hero and a martyr. For her lifelong devotion to nursing the ill and her selfless assistance in determining the etiology of yellow fever, her memory has been accorded many honors.
