SYNOPSIS

The effect of concomitant use of Naproxen in the amelioration of symptoms of ergotamine withdrawal was studied in a series of 22 patients. Withdrawal symptoms were characterized by increased headache, nausea and vomiting, increased use of analgesics and antiemetics and restlessness. Those patients treated with Naproxen during the withdrawal had significantly less headache, nausea, vomiting and restlessness, and consumed a smaller quantity of analgesic tablets and anti-emetics. Naproxen is recommended as a useful medication for amelioration of symptoms of ergotamine withdrawal.
